Left For Dead
For me, there are many who have inspired, motivated and encouraged me. But when I think of being ‘left for dead’, I think of my Dad.
A few years ago, Dad became quite unwell, to the point he had to go to hospital and we weren’t sure what might happen. But the thing that I clearly remember is him NOT wanting to be left for dead.
As he was admitted, a doctor asked him what his final wishes were and his response was ‘Well I’d like to be given a fighting chance!’ He was nearly 91 years young at that point and never actually answered the doctor’s question.
I absolutely love this response and it’s something I feel strongly within myself also. I want to grab every opportunity life thrusts at me, hold on to it with dear life and make the most out of it, even when it’s horrible and testing so I come out of it having grown in determination and resilience. There really is nothing quite like taking on the next challenge.
I’m going to give myself a fighting chance. How about you?
PS: And yes, he pulled through and is still with us today.
